Description

Participants create a lightweight scarf made with silk gauze and fine, colorful merino wool using the wet felting method which can be combined with many other felting techniques. For this particular project, participants will use soft, colorful merino wool roving, several yards of special gauze silk, yarn and various embellishments. After the initial fabrication, scarves will be rolled for 15 minutes in four directions and then “thrown” in hot water.

Workshop starts with simple brainstorming before creating “pre-felts.” Shape, form and various textures as they apply to making a beautiful, flowing scarf will be discussed. Participants then choose a color palette before learning the “ins and outs” of wet felting. A range of different concepts will be demonstrated to inspire everyone with many creative, exciting options.

Bring any extra yarns, beads or threads you might want to use for felting your scarf and bring a small sketch book or note pad.  All levels welcome.

Cathy is a member of the Northeast Feltmakers Guild where she has had the privilage of participating in classes given by world renowned feltmakers. Cathy credits her friend and fellow feltmaker Catherine Stebbinger with sharing ongoing creative energy, inspiration, and encouragement. Her work is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
