Description

In this hands-on quilting workshop, participants will learn how to add the finishing touch to their quilts by mastering binding techniques. You’ll explore both machine and hand-sewn methods for attaching clean, professional-looking edges, with guided instruction and time to practice. This two-part class includes a follow-up “Guided Making” session, where participants can finish their binding project or bring in another sewing piece to work on alongside the instructor and fellow makers.

***THIS WORKSHOP HAPPENS OVER TWO CONSECUTIVE SUNDAYS: SEPTEMBER 21ST & 28TH***

What to Expect

Students will learn how to take a finished quilt and add the final, polished edge: the binding. You’ll explore different methods of binding—both by machine and hand—and practice trimming, attaching, and finishing techniques to ensure your quilt has a clean, professional look.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own quilt project that’s ready for binding, but sample pieces will be available for practice if needed.

The second session (September 28th) is a Guided Making day—participants can return to complete the binding project they started in the first class or bring a different sewing or quilting project from home to work on with the support of the instructor and fellow makers.

Skills You’ll Acquire

• How to prepare quilt edges for binding

• Techniques for creating and attaching binding strips

• Machine and hand-finishing methods

• Understanding binding corners and joining ends cleanly

What’s Provided

• Binding materials (or bring your own preferred fabric)

• Sewing machines and hand-sewing tools

• Practice quilt samples for those without a project

• Step-by-step instruction and support across both sessions

Who Should Attend

This class is ideal for beginner to intermediate quilters who want to learn or strengthen their quilt-binding skills. Whether you’re finishing your first quilt or adding polish to an ongoing project, this two-part workshop will guide you through the process and provide space for continued support.

Prerequisites/Safety Information

No specific prerequisites. Participants are encouraged to bring a quilt that is ready for binding (quilt top, batting, and backing already assembled), but practice materials will also be available. Basic sewing machine familiarity is helpful. All tools and safety instructions will be provided during class.

This is a two-part class: September 21st (instruction) and September 28th (guided making)
