Madison Art Society invites you to a Zoom Lecture: “New York, New York Artists” presented by Bob Potter

New York city will become the epicenter of modern art in the mid-20th century and a new generation of artists will challenge all the traditions of art that have come before. Frank Stella will paint and sculpt canvases in flat color, geometric design and hard-edge shapes. With bold, dramatic and expressive brush strokes, William de Kooning transforms the female figure. Helen Frankenthaler explores the possibilities of Abstract Expressionism painting giant canvases of fluid shapes of translucent color. Jasper Johns finds inspiration in the American flag, maps, targets, numbers and the alphabet as he creates new images that challenge and redefine what is art. This lecture will present major works by each of these artists and share biographical details and revealing videos.
Please come join us and support your local artists and community! RSVP by April 23 to Marianne@RTDTECH.com Lectures are open to the public. Those who RSVP will receive the Zoom link on the day before each lecture from Marianne@RTDTECH.com.
